When you develop your own software, it's important to have a product box that looks impressive. Even if you don't actually need a product box to ship your software, you can still create a graphic using Adobe Photoshop that creates a professional look.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Open a new document sized 600 by 600 pixels.

  2. Step 2

Draw a rectangle the shape of a product box with the select tool in a new layer. The rectangle should be taller than it is wide. Fill the rectangle with the color you want by selecting the "Fill" tool, which is the bucket icon.

  3. Step 3

Select a new layer. Create another rectangle that is narrower to be the side of the box. Fill the rectangle with the same color as the larger rectangle. Put a little white space between the two rectangles.

  4. Step 4

Design your box cover and side with text and graphics as you normally would with Photoshop. When you're finished, rasterize the text layers by going to "Layers," then "Rasterize" and "Type."

  5. Step 5

Merge all layers of text and graphics into two layers--one for the front and one for the side.

  6. Step 6

Distort the images to give the product box a perspective look. Line both layers up so they are touching side-by-side. Select the side layer and go to "Edit," "Transform" and then "Distort." Pull the top-left and bottom-left corners in, which mean you move the corners down.

  7. Step 7

Repeat Step 6 for the front layer. Use your best judgment to achieve the look you desire.

  8. Step 8

Select the side layer again. Go to "Image," "Adjustments" and then "Variations." You should see a variety of choices available. Click "Darker" once.

  9. Step 9

Create a new layer under all the others to make a shadow. Use a wide spray brush with a size of 45 and opacity of 50 percent. Place the brush in the center of the bottom middle corner and spray once. Now, go to the bottom right corner and press "Shift" and spray once. A straight line from both corners should appear.

  10. Step 10

Repeat Step 9 with the bottom left corner to the bottom middle corner. This gives you a nice shadow effect for your product box.
