The war against spyware continues to grow as software developers bring out program after program to stop spyware from taking control of your computer. However, sometimes the cure causes problems. Many people have come up against trouble from antispyware programs too.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging
Step1
Ask yourself if you need extra spyware protection. Virus protection programs often catch adware during scans. However, if applications start crashing, spyware might be the problem.
Step2
Verify that your security software programs don't conflict with each other. Try operating your computer with one security program at a time. Then add one more and operate your computer. If things continue to work until you turn on one of the programs, you've found your culprit.
Step3
Buy spyware security programs only from reputable software providers. Don't allow a pop-up window to scare you into buying a program. These rogue antispyware programs are actually spyware that tries to install malicious applications on your computer.
Step4
Look at recently added programs and updates to programs if you suddenly start experiencing problems. Common problems related to spyware security programs include CPU spikes and hanging up during updating.
Step5
Check for recent updates if your antispyware seems bugged. Updates often take care of software problems. Understand that beta software can carry many bugs because, after all, it is test software. Upgrade to the real thing when available.
Step6
Turn off automatic updates on your program if problems seem to occur when your software updates. Better to do a manual update that doesn't take away resources your need for other projects.
Step7
Uninstall and reinstall antispyware programs if problems continue. When all else fails, switch to another program.

Tips & Warnings

  • If it's simply pop-ups that bug you, try turning on your pop-up blocker under Internet Explorer tools, or in the Preferences menu of other web browsers.
