The curl is a great to use on a free kick or penalty shot. When you want to get the ball to curve around the goalie quickly, curl the soccer ball to make it swerve in the air towards the corner of the goal.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Soccer ball
  • Tree or cone
  1. Step 1

Approach the ball setting up to use the inside of your foot. Get the most power by swinging your kicking foot back as far as you can for momentum.

  2. Step 2

Point your supporting foot to the side of the target. Imagine a straight line from you to this point. Kick your foot on a line parallel to the line of your supporting foot.

  3. Step 3

Make contact with the side of the ball using the side of your foot. Aim just below the equator.

  4. Step 4

Follow through with your foot pointed towards the curve direction on the line you initially imagine.

  5. Step 5

Get more height on your curl by leaning back when you approach the ball, and make contact with the ball slightly lower.

  6. Step 6

Practice curling the soccer ball around trees, cones or anything stationary to get used to the feel. Combine the correct approach and ball contact for the perfect curl.

Tips & Warnings
  • The farther to the side of the ball you make contact, the more spin produced in the curl.
  • Curl the ball with the outside of your foot after mastering the inside curl. The outside curl is much harder.
