How to Give a Thank You Speech

Giving a "Thank You" speech can be a major event. Take the time necessary to do a good job--after all, someone took the time to give you the award. Follow etiquette rules in writing your speech and you cannot go wrong.

Instructions

    • 1

Figure out what type of event your thank you speech is for. Your speech will take on a different tone depending on the event.

    • 2

Determine who will be listening to your speech. Alter your style depending on the audience. If you are speaking to your peers you will want to make the speech more informal then if speaking to your superiors.

    • 3

Write the speech out and practice it. Get to the point where you present your speech without reading it. Condense the speech to key points written on a card that you can take with you to give the speech.

    • 4

Ask the organizer of the event how long you can speak when giving your acceptance speech. Rework your speech at this point if needed to fit the time constraint.

    • 5

Rehearse your written speech in front of the mirror; this will give you an idea of how it will sound in front of a group of people. If you have a friend or family member that is willing to listen and help you practice, so much the better.

    • 6

Take a deep breath, relax use your notes and enjoy giving your speech.
