Granular scrubs feel great on the skin, but they can be very expensive. However, it's very simple to create your own tailor-made granular exfoliant, and it will be a fraction of the cost. Use an exfoliant once a week to scrub off dead layers of skin, and your face will look and feel great.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make a granular exfoliant out of salt. You can use regular table salt; also try sea salt or kosher salt.

  2. Step 2

Try using sugar. White sugar is inexpensive, or you can also try natural cane sugar. Brown sugar also works well, and has a nice fragrance. A sugar scrub will be a bit gentler than a scrub made of salt, but will still increase the circulation in the face.

  3. Step 3

Wake up your face in the morning with a coffee scrub. Coffee feels great on the skin, and the caffeine will tighten and shrink blood vessels.

  4. Step 4

Use a gentle oatmeal exfoliant if you have dry, itchy skin, or a flax seed exfoliant, which has great lubricating properties.

  5. Step 5

Add a moisturizer to your choice of exfoliants. Nearly any kind of oil will work, but sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil or apricot oil are great moisturizers. Just add enough oil to the exfoliant to give it a slushy texture.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you prefer your exfoliant to have a fragrance, add a few drops of essential oil. You can choose any fragrance that suits your mood, but vanilla, citrus, rosemary, cinnamon, geranium and lavender are all terrific choices.
  • Don't use a salt exfoliant if you have sensitive skin or if you've just shaved.
