How to Make Pixie Stick Sand Art
Pixie stick sand art is an ideal craft for little fingers. The colorful candy makes cheerful sand "sculptures in a jar." The only problem is keeping little artists from eating all of the pixie stick sand so make sure you have plenty of pixie sticks on hand.
Things You'll Need
- Pixie sticks in a variety of colors
- Newspapers or paper towels
- Empty, clean baby food jars or other small jars
Instructions

1
Protect the working surface with a plastic tablecloth or a layer of newspapers or paper towels.
-
2
Separate the pixie sticks into small batches by color. For example, make a smile pile of orange pixie stick, a pile of green pixie stick and a jar of red pixie sticks.
-
-
3
Layer the pixie stick sand in the clean baby food jars, applying the sand directly from the stick. This will enable little artists to easily build hills or indentations. It looks best if you use about five to six pixie sticks per layer.
-
4
Fill the jar to the top with pixie stick sand and put the lid on tightly.
-
5
Finish off the pixie stick sand art by tying a brightly-colored ribbon around the top of the jar, or cap it with a piece of color fabric fastened with a ribbon or a rubber band.
