Anime, or Japanese animation, encompasses a wide array of genres and appeals to many fans. More and more anime fans can be found in the United States and other countries. However, international enthusiasts must import their anime from Japan, which makes it an expensive hobby. There are, however, ways to buy cheap anime.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging
Step1
Buy used anime instead of new. Used DVDs can sometimes be found at local video stores or online for half the price of new series.
Step2
Find Chinese or Korean knockoffs. You can buy cheap anime series online that look exactly like the real thing, but are actually Chinese copies.
Step3
Attend anime conventions in your area. Often, cheap anime, manga and merchandise is available there from local anime artists.
Step4
Download your anime if you're looking for a series that has yet to be distributed in your country. Often, these are available for free, although most people donate a few dollars to the fan-subbers.

Tips & Warnings

  • Although it is not illegal to download anime, it is illegal to distribute it. Be careful not to share episodes when using a person-to-person network or other sharing programs.
  • Once anime is licensed in the US, companies are generally more aggressive about protecting an anime series.
