While maintaining a freshly manicured lawn and a plentiful garden can be rewarding, those that don't have a "Green Thumb" may find the thought overwhelming. You can use artificial flowers and plastic plants to decorate your home--inside and out--but you're going to want to clean your plastic plants and keep them looking lively and real.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Garden hose with water
  • Bucket
  • Soap
  • Sponge
  • Towels (optional)
  • Bucket
  • Water
  • Soap
  • Sponge
  • Towels
  • Vacuum cleaner (optional)

Outdoor Plastic Plants

Step1
Move your garden hose to the location of your plastic plant. If your hose isn't long enough to reach your plant's position, bring it as close as you can get it to the area.
Step2
Fill your bucket with water, adding as much soap as you feel you need. Place your sponge into the bucket to allow it to soak through.
Step3
Wash your plastic plants. So you don't drop dirty suds onto the bottom layers of your plant, begin cleaning the top of your plant first, working your way down.
Step4
Dry your plastic plant. Because you're outside, you can elect to either dry your plant with a towel or allow it to air dry.

Indoor Plastic Plants

Step1
Surround your plastic plants with towels or protective floor coverings. If you can, move your plants to one central area in your house, or move them outdoors and follow the steps in Section 1.
Step2
Add soap to the bottom of a bucket and fill the bucket with water. If your plastic plants are close to the bathroom, it may be easier to use the bathtub to fill the bucket.
Step3
Dip your sponge into the soapy water. To prevent a mess, use only as much water as is necessary to clean your plastic plants. Begin at the top of your plant and move downward as you clean.
Step4
Take the towels available and dry your plastic plants.
Step5
Remove the towels and finish cleaning your plastic plants by vacuuming any remaining debris.

Tips & Warnings

  • Periodically spray your plastic plants with the garden hose to lessen the amount of time it takes you to clean them.
