How to Find a Seat on the School Bus

Some school buses have assigned seats which means that you need to sit where the driver tells you to. If your bus does not have an assigned seat, you can choose any seat on the bus that you want. Remember, to always stay in your seat while the bus is moving.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide in advance which part of the school bus you would like to sit in. The back of the bus is usually a bumpy ride and often has the noisiest kids in it. The middle of the bus can also have a lot of talking and commotion. The front of the bus is usually quietest, and is a good place to sit if you want a peaceful ride, or have homework to do while you are riding.

Think about whether you prefer to sit near a window or the side of the seat closest to the aisle.

    • 3

Choose your seat quickly after you get on the bus. Most bus drivers will not start driving until you are sitting, so if you take a long time to find a seat, you are holding everyone up. Some drivers do begin driving before you take your seat, and standing while the bus is moving is dangerous.

Scan the area of the bus you want to sit in to see if you have any friends on the bus to sit with. If not, look for someone who smiles at you or makes eye contact, indicating it is alright with them if you share their seat.

Look for kids that you know are trouble makers and choose a seat away from them. If someone sitting near you picks on you or gives you a hard time, wait for the bus to stop and then find a new seat.
