Step 1
Choose a cause you're going to devote your fundraising activities toward. Set fundraising goal amounts and dates. Pick periodic dates for "Check In" purposes to see how you're progressing. If you're going to be working with an organization such as Team in Training, follow their guidelines.
-
Step 2
Make a list of potential sponsors or donors. Include family, friends, co-workers and neighbors. Think about people or things you have supported in the past to add to your list of contacts.
-
Step 3
Send a letter to each contact in Step 2 to ask for their support. Personalize your letters as much as you can, but because you may have a lot of letters to send, you can use a form letter changing the contact's information.
-
Step 4
Consider fundraising by selling items. Some home business oriented companies--Home Interior, Pampered Chef, Mary Kay--increase their overall percentages to hosts of parties for their products. Local businesses may place a box of candy bars at their register, or even a jar, for your fundraising endeavors.
-
Step 5
Ask your family and friends for their joint commitment. The more people you can get on your "team," the better the opportunity to spread your wings and raise more money and support.
-
Step 6
Follow up with your contacts in Step 2. As your final goal date grows near, send a friendly reminder letter or email. For those that you're closest to, give them a telephone call to again ask for their support.
