How to Avoid Weather-Related Migraines

Migraine sufferers know that the best way to deal with a migraine headache is to avoid getting one altogether. There are several triggers that you can avoid, such as dark chocolate, red wine and aged cheese. The weather can be a little more difficult to avoid.

Instructions

    • 1

Identify the weather changes that trigger your migraines. Invest in a barometer that shows accurate weather readings. Keep a headache diary of the times and exact weather to track any patterns.

    • 2

Talk to your doctor about medicating yourself when you predict a migraine trigger. Some people take ibuprofen prior to traveling or as the weather changes. Your doctor might suggest taking your migraine medication prophylactically to avoid getting the weather related migraine altogether.

    • 3

Take good care of yourself to avoid the severity of a migraine. Get enough sleep at night, use good posture throughout the day, eat balanced meals regularly and stay hydrated.

    • 4

Use a humidifier to help change the pressure in a room when you have a weather-related migraine. You can try getting some fresh air, as that may also help. Open a window or go outside unless you notice it getting worse by the weather outside. Changing the pressure by humidifying the air inside or going outside can be the trick to easing your migraine pain.

    • 5

Consider taking a preventative medication to reduce the frequency and severity of your migraines. Ask your doctor if this is a good option for you.
