Things You'll Need:
- Product reviews
- Appropriate gaming platforms
-
Step 1
Select a gaming controller for your PC that allows you to map key functions. Many gamepads, for example, allow you to choose which button does what, so if you want to press a specific button for jumping and another for firing a weapon, you have that option. Logitech, Mad Catz and Microsoft are all noted for having fully mappable gaming controllers.
-
Step 2
Go wireless. Wireless controllers like the Xbox 360 Wireless controller or Saitek's P2900 enable you to sit back and relax while gaming on your PC without having to worry about accidentally pulling a wire from your computer. The only problem you might encounter with a wireless controller is the need to re-sync the controller every time you want to use it.
-
Step 3
Select a joystick for flight and space simulators. Using a joystick (preferably one with a lot of mappable buttons) gives a more realistic gaming experience, particularly when trying to pull off fancy maneuvers. When looking at joysticks, choose one that offers rudder support (a twisting control column) and a throttle switch. Look at the Logitech Force 3D Pro or the Saitek Cyborg Evo, both excellent joysticks.
-
Step 4
Buy the Xbox Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows. With the receiver you can use your wireless Xbox 360 controller on both your PC and your Xbox 360 console. The receiver, coupled with the downloadable driver software essentially gives you two controllers for the price of one.
-
Step 5
Buy a gaming keyboard/mouse combo. The Logitech G11 Gaming Keyboard, for example, comes with a host of features that help get you in the game, like backlit keys, fully programmable media keys, and an ergonomic design that lets you keep cords and other gaming peripherals out of the way.
