Things You'll Need:
- Flashlight
- Comfortable clothes
- Good shoes
- EMF meter
- Digital thermometer
- Audio recorder
- Camera
-
Step 1
Build a list of equipment you think you will need. This includes items for detecting the presence of ghosts, recording devices to capture any evidence and mundane items that make ghost finding in the dark a little easier. It helps to write everything down before you shop for it.
-
Step 2
Purchase any normal items you might need, or gather them from your home if you already have them. This mainly means comfortable clothes, practical shoes (especially if you will be finding ghosts outside) and a functional flashlight if you're going to be anywhere at night. You can purchase them at any hardware or clothing store if you do not already possess them.
-
Step 3
Decide whether you want an electromagnetic field (EMF) meter, a popular choice for finding ghosts. The device measures electromagnetic radiation, which often indicates a supernatural presence in a given area. You can shop for models at sites such as Ambient Weather.com and DAS distribution, as well as popular sites such as Amazon.com and eBay (see Resources below).
-
Step 4
Determine whether you should buy an infrared thermometer, which is good for detecting cold spots and other signs of ghostly manifestations. You can shop for them at any scientific supply store and on websites like Digital Thermometers.net (see Resources below).
-
Step 5
Select an audio recording device to detect sounds of the spirits. You can use a standard tape recorder, which can be further augmented with a microphone or sound amplifier if you choose. Try to find one that is voice activated, since it will pick up sounds even if you aren't in the area at the time. You can find prices through BizRate and at any basic electronics store (see Resources below).
-
Step 6
Shop for a video recorder--either a still camera or a video camera--which can provide evidence during your ghost-finding expeditions. Look for cameras with low light or night vision options, which may pick up things that normal vision can't. They are sold in specialty shops, general electronics dealers like Best Buy and Circuit City and online sites such as eBay and Amazon (see Resources below).
