How to Make a Polar Grid in Adobe Illustrator

Are you trying to create a clock or other circular diagram in Adobe Illustrator? You could make all of the lines and borders by hand, but luckily Illustrator has a built in shortcut--the polar grid tool. Here is how to use it.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Open Illustrator Document
  1. Step 1

    Find the polar grid tool in your toolbar. This tool shares a space with the following: line segment, arc, rectangular grid and spiral tools. All you have to do is put your mouse over the tool and hold your left mouse button down. The full menu will pop out, and you can select the rectangular grid tool.

  2. Step 2

    Click on your document. A small polar grid will appear.

  3. Step 3

    Double click on the polar grid tool in your toolbar. Now a dialog box will pop up, letting you choose the number of sections you would like.

  4. Step 4

    Click again on your document. The grid you designed is there.

  5. Step 5

    Fine tune the size and dimensions of you grid with the black arrow tool.

  6. Step 6

    Delete the first practice grid you made, if necessary.

Tips & Warnings
  • You could use the chart tool if you have a more complicated kind of information graphic to make.
