How to Make a Rectangular Grid in Adobe Illustrator

Do you have a schedule or timetable that you need to create in Adobe Illustrator? You could make all of the lines and borders by hand, but luckily Illustrator has a built in shortcut—the rectangular grid tool.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

• Computer
• Adobe Illustrator
• Open Illustrator Document

1. Find the rectangular grid tool in your toolbar. This tool shares a space with the following: line segment, arc, polar grid and spiral tools. All you have to do is put your mouse over the tool and hold your left mouse button down. The full menu will pop out, and you can select the rectangular grid tool.
2. Click on your document. A small grid will appear.
3. Double click on the rectangular grid tool in your toolbar. Now a dialog box will pop up, letting you choose the number of rows and columns you would like.
4. Click again on your document. The grid you designed is there.
5. Fine tune the size and dimensions of you grid with the black arrow tool.
6. Delete the first practice grid you made, if necessary.

Tips & Warnings

• You could use the chart tool if you have a more complicated kind of information graphic to make.
