If you're like me, you like a "clean" desktop. I have NO icons on my desktop including the Recycle Bin; want to know how to remove it? Here's how...

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Windows XP

Step1
If going for a "clean" desktop look (no desktop icons) right click on each one and click delete. (This will not delete any programs, it will only delete the icons. Notice that you can not right click on the Recycle Bin and click "delete" there isn't that option.
Step2
Right click any blank area on your desktop. Select "Arrange Icons By" once in this menu click "Show Desktop Icons"
Step3
This has now removed your Recycle Bin from your desktop, if you want to change it back, follow Step 2 again and change it back.

Tips & Warnings

  • Having all icons gone will look nice, but don't get frustrated at first, you can always put icons back if you want.
  • Don't forget if you Save anything to your Desktop and you have your "Show Desktop Icons" turned "off", you will have to repeat Step 2 to show what items you have saved/recently added to your Desktop.
