Step1
Who couldn’t use an extra $500 each and every year to get them out of those tight spots with bills that we’ve all been in? Or to help out around holidays or birthdays?
The truth is we could all use $500, especially if it’s free! So where is it? Everyone’s seen gimmicks on the internet for filling out surveys or playing the lottery. We’ve all tried some get rich quick scheme that we swore we’d never mention again… so let’s not. Here’s the truth. You can make up to an extra $500 or more each and every year in an honest way. So, enough talk. Let’s get to it!
Step2
Pick up Artist - $50.00
We all see. We all walk by it because it just isn’t worth bending over and picking it up. Okay, well, not all of us walk by it. I actually picked up the change I found laying on the ground for one full year and collected well over $50.00! It’s everywhere once you start looking for it. At the check out lane, in the parking lot, on the sidewalk, and even in your own couch and automobile. Put it some place you can’t see. Out of sight, out of mind. Keep it in a box, a bottle, where ever it’s out of sight.
Step3
Rebates and coupons - $25.00
We buy stuff all the time and when do we ever check for a rebate or coupon? The next time you are planning to make a purchase of a brand name item hop on your computer and do a search for a rebate or coupon for the item. Just go to Yahoo or Google and type in – rebate brand name item name. For instance, if you were planning to buy a new coffee maker for GE, type in rebate GE coffee maker. You can even just type in coffee maker rebate. You may get a different brand name that you weren’t originally planning on buying, but with a rebate you may decide to buy from this different brand name instead.
Step4
Shop Online - $25.00
If you have student loans you can get extra money from Upromise. I use the gas and dining options most, but I’ve also use the Barnes and Noble, eBay, and Teleflora options. Just register for free and then when you shop online use their website to search for the online store or business you want to shop with. Any purchases you make will earn you cash toward your student loan or towards going to school. If you sign up at eRewards you can earn extra Upromise money. I usually earn about $25.00 minimum per year doing this.
Step5
Don’t Spend Money on How to Make Money On eBay - $150.00
You’ve seen them before. Powersellers writing books on how to strike it rich on eBay. Well, there is some truth to it, but for most of us we are just going to make some extra cash. My aunt used to make over $2000/mo on eBay. She was a powerseller and eBay coursed through her blood. She had a talent of painting and crafts. I couldn’t paint the way she did if someone offered me a million dollars. But I can make some extra money. I usually make about $100 - $500 per year on eBay. There’s no need for a 300 page $20 book, here’s the secret of where and what to buy. Check out my other articles for more on selling on eBay.
Here’s where to go: Goodwill, thrift stores, yard sales, estate auctions, textbook sales at universities or colleges, and your own house and garage. Forget about flea markets, these people are usually dealers and already sell on eBay. You’re just buying the stuff they already tried to sell and couldn’t!
What to buy
Old or collectable toys – Look for fad toys like Garfield, GI Joe, Strawberry Shortcake, Barbie, Holly Hobbie, Spider-Man, etc. Something in mint condition and still in the box for a collector or old in good condition.
Old tools – antique tools are a huge hit. Also specialty tools that are high priced new are good.
Old sporting goods – old lures or fishing flies, old baseballs, gloves, etc.
Textbooks – Medical, Science based text books do very well.
Collectable Stuff – Buy what you like. Chances are there are people like you on eBay who will have the same interests. If you are a huge baseball fan, then you’ll know what sells better than someone who hates or knows nothing about baseball.
Here’s a list of some of the items I’ve sold on eBay:
$100 - Metallic Christmas tree still in box and from the 1970’s
$10 – Tommy Hilfiger wool trench coat
$60 – (each) 4 anatomy textbooks to a professor in Israel
$50 – Spider-Man collector cards from the first movie
$80 – David Bach Retire Rich CDs and books
$10 – Computer game Leisure Suit Larry
$18 – old role playing board game
$40 – Atari role playing game Wizardry
$60 – Old Console video game
Step6
Yard Sale - $150
There are always those items that are just too big or too stupid to put on eBay. Like those clothes you don’t wear anymore, or that ugly chair that you been trying to hide, or all those little clutter things you just couldn’t bare to throw away because maybe someone could use them some day you’ll just throw them in this closet, or what about those roller blades you never learned how to use. Chances are they’ll cost too much to ship if they sold on eBay. So, you’re better off selling them to someone who can pay and go with them. A yard sale is just the way to do it. Remember to price it cheap and get rid of it. You want the money, but the item to throw back into your closet. If you live in an area where you can’t have a yard sale, then make a list and hang it up on your local bulletin board, a friends shop window, at the Laundromat, at school, or ask if you can hand it out at work. I sold a cabinet for $150 and a propane heater for $45 by hanging the flyer up at work with my cell phone, a picture of the item, description, and price. The person brought the money to work the next day and I brought the item. After work or on our lunch break we swapped! Any items left can be donated to a thrift store. Be sure to get a receipt for your items to deduct at tax time!
Step7
Cash Back or Matching Programs - $75.00
Credit cards, banks, everyone is offering you free money if you will just use their services. I signed up for my bank’s savings program last year and received $75 from them. The round up your purchases to the whole dollar amount and take that money from your checking and deposit it into your saving. But, the other thing is, they will throw in money of their own up to a certain percentage of what you save. Some banks even offer you $25 to $50 just for opening an account with them. A good example of a bank that offers incentives if Bank of America with their “Keep the Change” Program.
Even stores offer you gift cards or cash off a purchase for signing up for a credit card. Don’t do this often because applying for these cards too much can affect your credit.
