Now that the Naughty Sorceress no longer scales to your stats, some have argued that Baron Von Ratsworth is the most difficult boss in Kingdom of Loathing. Worse yet, you have to fight him in the early levels, before you have much power. But there are ways to defeat him.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access
  • Kingdom of Loathing account
  1. Step 1

Minimize your muscle/moxie. Baron Von Ratsworth scales to your stats, so adding muscle gives you no extra damage, it just gives him more defense. And adding moxie makes you no harder to hit. Remove any +stat equipment you are wearing, and if possible, go in beaten up to lower your stats even further.

  2. Step 2

Use a combat familiar. This can be defensive (potato/barrrrnacle), offensive (misshapen animal skeleton, &c), or both (cocoabo/NPZR), but chances are, you'll want all the help you can get.

  3. Step 3

Throw combat items. Having Ambidextrous Funkslinging is useful for this strategy, although not required if you are using a super high-damage item like Poltergeist in a jar-o.

  4. Step 4

Do not just attack, as that will rarely connect and do insufficient damage when it does. Using Lunging Thrust-Smack or a Butt-combo with lots of +melee damage is not a bad strategy, and casting spells with lots of boosted damage can be useful too.

  5. Step 5

Try to de-level Baron Von Ratsworth until he can no longer hit you if you have disco bandit skills or de-leveling items. However, this takes a while, and he may well kill you in the meantime.

  6. Step 6

Boost initiative as much as possible. At low levels, you may well die from the first hit, so getting the jump and one-shotting him is your best bet.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you cannot defeat Baron Von Ratsworth, simply skip him and turn off the faucet. You don't need his items that much anyway.
  • Apparently, the Baron now gets stronger if you have completed more ascensions. On the bright side, so do you.
