Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Gallery guide
- Between $20 and $50
- Car, bike or bus pass
Step1
Explore L.A.'s burgeoning art scene. Many museums have a free or
discounted evening. There are also regular art walks for the galleries
in Santa Monica and Chinatown. Most of the galleries provide free beer
and wine.
Step2
Explore alternative spaces. There are many small venues that host events and concerts that are either free or cheap, especially on the east side of town.
Step3
Try new ethnic foods. L.A. is a great place to go out for dinner. Try Chinese or Vietnamese food in Chinatown or Ethiopian in the "Little Ethiopia" section of Fairfax. Not your speed? Taco trucks abound in LA and you can get a tasty taco or burrito for under $5.
Step4
Do as the Angelinos do. Go to the movies. You name it, you can see it in L.A. If mainstream cinema isn't your cup of tea, there are numerous rep houses in the city. Cine Family at the Silent Theater in Hollywood has a wide variety of classic and rare programming.
