When your store celebrates an aniversary, it is time to thank existing customers for their support and draw new customers to your door. These tips are primarily for brickfront stores and services, but any business can promote an anniversary.

How to Celebrate Your Shop's Anniversary

  1. Step 1

Promote your full business to clients. You may have name value but most customers remember only one or two features, not the full range of merchandise and services, Quick lube auto services, for example, often do more, such as minor tune-ups and brakes. Tax preparers should let clients know that bookkeeping and accounting services are available all year.

  2. Step 2

Send out an anniversary letter to your client list. If you own a retail shop, advertise and put up signs. If you are an online business, make an announcement on your Home or About Us page regarding your anniversary and achievements.

  3. Step 3

Make down your old merchandise. Show off new merchandise with a big clean display. Pump up attention with new offerings or added services they will remember.

  4. Step 4

Visit a party or wedding store and buy colorful anniversary balloons, streamers and banners. If your store has been around a long time, put up pictures from the early days. Ask your suppliers for promotional posters. Marketing departments often have press releases and advertising material relating to product history.

  5. Step 5

Tie-in discounts numerically. If you have been in business 7 years, offer a 7-percent discount for 7 days. If you have been in business just a year, offer the same type of free sample, consultation or gift that you did for your grand opening. If this is an 18-year anniversary, offer a range of products at $18.00 and put price signs in your store linking the anniversary and the special price.

  6. Step 6

Advertise. If your store is at a magical milestone, such as 5, 10, 15 or 20 years, send a short press release to newspapers and radio and television news departments. You probably will receive a call from their sales department. Use this opportunity to have them spec ads for you about the event. Set your ad budget before they call and stick to it.

  7. Step 7

Give Customer Gifts. Ask suppliers for promotional items. If you have merchandise that no longer fits your store, give it away in a drawing. Hire a clown or performer to give away balloon art, show trinkets or other promotional items. Hand out store magnets, reusable shopping bags and other logo merchandise.
