Digital photography has many advantages over traditional film photography. Not only can you choose which photos you would like to spend money on printing, but you can even delete horrible pictures with the click of a button. But the true benefits of digital photography happen when the photo is transferred from your camera to the computer, where a number of enhancements can be made to transform that ordinary photo into something that is truly spectacular. Here is a quick guide to enhancing the color of your digital photos.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Digital photo to be enhanced
  • Computer with Photoshop or other image editing software installed
  1. Step 1

Open the photo that you would like to enhance in your image editing software.

  2. Step 2

Locate the "Image" menu at the top of the screen. Click "Image", then click "Adjustments" and click "Auto Contrast". This will adjust the brightness level of the image to be more optimized. In some images, you may notice no change at all, while others will have a dramatic difference. If you are on a Windows machine, you can also run the Auto Contrast by pressing Alt+Shift+Ctrl+L.

  3. Step 3

Return to "Images" and "Adjustments." Instead of clicking Auto Contrast, this time you will want to click "Auto Color". On a windows pc, you can accomplish the same result by pushing Shift+Ctrl+B. This will optimize the colors in your digital photo, and makes a great enhancement that will breathe new life into your shot.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you save your enhanced photo, be sure to use the "Save As" option so that you can use a different file name than the one used by the original image. This allows you to revert back to the original copy, should you ever wish to.
