It is easy for most of us to sit in the comfort of our home, watching "Survivor" on television. Do you really have what it takes to live in the wilderness for two months, surviving on nothing but rice, while competing in physically and mentally demanding challenges? Can you do this while forming bonds with those you trust and deceiving those you don't? If you think you've got what it takes, then here is how you can become a contestant on "Survivor".

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Access to a video camera
  • An application form (can be obtained from CBS.com)
  • US Passport

Step1
Obtain an official Survivor application form from CBS.com. Fill this form out completely, and do not be afraid to just be yourself when answering the questions. Remember, CBS has received a million of these forms over the years, and can probably spot a phony response.
Step2
Create a three-minute video telling the executives why you are the next "survivor" —not why you should be on the show, but why you will win "Survivor" and take home the million dollar prize. Do not be shy or timid. Do not be afraid to let your personality show or to tell them interesting facts about your life, because this is what they are looking for.
Step3
Package your application and video, together with a photocopy of your U.S. Passport (yes, it must be from the US) and a passport photo, and mail them to the address provided on the application form.
Step4
Know that if you've got what it takes to get the attention of the casting crew, you will be given an invitation to attend an interview in a city near you. Transportation is not included with this interview, so it is up to you to get there on your own. Survivor interviews are normally held in Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Green Bay, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City and San Francisco.
Step5
Consider that if you make the cut during the interview, you will be invited to the Survivor Semi-Finals, held at CBS studios. The studio will pay for your airfare and accommodations. As part of this final interview, you will need to fill out additional paperwork to authorize CBS to conduct background checks. You will also be subjected to an extensive physical examination, conducted by a doctor appointed by the studio. You need to be physically and mentally fit to be a contestant on survivor, and they need to be sure you've got what it takes to survive in the wilderness.
Step6
Assume that all goes well with the semi-finals and the only step left is to get on an airplane and fly to the adventure of a lifetime, which will likely be held on an island in the tropics, where it rains daily and there is an abundance of rice and fish. Yum.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't be afraid to be yourself during the application process. Personality is key to getting through to the interview stage.
  • If you do not succeed the first time, do not get discouraged. Some contestants applied several times before they were accepted for the show.
