So, you've spent a small fortune on a massive DVD collection. Who hasn't? But now you may find yourself in college, strapped for cash and surrounded by hundreds of people who want to borrow your movies, so why not make a little money while you're at it?

Things You’ll Need:

• A DVD collection
• Paper or a computer

1. Decide how much you'd like to charge people when they have movies out, and how long is an acceptable amount of time for them to borrow the DVDs. If you have a huge interest from people, you may not have to charge much.
2. Advertise. Make fliers so people know they can rent from you, because the more customers you have, the more successful you'll be.
3. Create some sort of database, whether it's on the computer (recommended) or on a piece of paper, of the DVD's you have, who they are checked out to and the due date for return.
4. Make a display of your DVDs so people can get a good look. A good shelf set-up will do just fine.
5. Make sure your roommate(s) is/are okay with people coming into your dorm/apartment/house to get a look at the collection.
6. By this point, you're all set to start your business.

Tips & Warnings

• When you check out movies to people, it is advised to have some sort of collateral from them so they will want to bring it back, such as a student ID card or some amount of money. This will be returned to them when they return the DVD.
• Be aware that the chance of theft will increase when you loan things to people. Start with people you trust, but it should be sufficient to have a document stating who has which DVD. This establishes a certain amount of accountability.
