Things You'll Need:
- Must love superhero comics
- Must love silly humor
- Knowledge of the comic book heroes the movie spoofs
-
Step 1
Web StartupLearn the history. Superhero movie is a spoof in the same vein as the Scary Movie and Naked Gun films. Writer/director Craig Mazin also wrote Scary Movie 3 and 4. David Zucker has also produced the Airplane and Naked Gun series of films. The main character of Rick Riker is loosely based on Peter Parker, AKA Spider-Man, whose genesis was reported by comic book genius Stan Lee in the August, 1962 issue of Amazing Fantasy #15.
-
Step 2
DragonflyCheck out the buzz. The film was originally slated for release in February 2007 but production was pushed back. Producer David Zucker stated that Superhero Movie will parody all recent superhero films just as the Scary Movie franchise had parodied recent horror films. The film has an impressive $35 million dollar budget.
-
Step 3
Visible PamGet to know the all-star cast. You can't have a spoof without Leslie Nielsen. The 82-year-old actor has made more than 200 television and film appearances but he's best known for his performances in parodies such as Airplane!, The Naked Gun and Scary Movie 3 and 4. Other notable cast members include Tracy Morgan as Dr. Xavier, Christopher McDonald as The Hourglass, Pamela Anderson as the Invisible Girl and Marion Ross as Aunt Lucille.
-
Step 4
Watch the films. If you are going to enjoy a parody film, it's essential to know what's being parodied. Head straight out to the video store and rent Batman Begins, Fantastic Four, Superman Returns, Spider-Man 1, 2 and 3, and all three X-Men films. Watch them and pay attention to the key parts in the films. Spoofing these nuances is what generates the big laughs in Superhero Movie.
-
Step 5
Overstreet GuideLearn more about comic books. Why are there so many movies about comic book heroes? It's because comic books are big business and usually certain box-office gold. But if you are a comic book neophyte here are some books you can check out:

God Wears Spandex: The Secret History of Comic Book Heroes by Chris Knowles.

on 12/29/2008 I had this DVD bought for me as a christmas present, I didnt like the Adverts between trailers, (Bought from a well known supermarket chain, and the fact that it kept jumping. I had to watch this on my dirt cheap DVD player. I wet my self with laughter, there was not one scene that was not funny. I love these spoof movies I cry with laughter at every one, but this has to be the best so far.

on 3/28/2008 Can't wait to see it. I love spoof movies as long as they don't go to the point of being so stupid they are not funny.

on 3/28/2008 Also, don't be afraid to be seen at a horrible movie, and lose the respect of peers and strangers at aforementioned movie. You might also want to do some serious binge drinking and pot smoking before you go; not to make the movie funny, God Himself couldn't pull that off with this movie, but the substance abuse is to kickstart the massive loss of brain cells that will undoubtedly come with watching this steamy pile of pseudo-cinema. That being said, eh it still looks marginally better than meet the spartans. enjoy.

on 3/27/2008 I can't believe there wasn't a "dress like your favorite super hero" paragraph...we all know everyone is waiting for a good excuse to dress up like a superhero, this sounds like its it!

on 3/27/2008 Wow, I had no idea that Leslie Nielson was that age. I love the spoof genre, it's a good thing you wrote this article. I have the feeling lots of people would walk into this taking it seriously, I knew people who cried at "A Mighty Wind". Seriously.
