Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- a piece of paper
- willingness
- form of payment
Step1
Your man probably already knows what he likes and where he likes it from. Asking him is the easiest way to go. (hints the paper) Simply write down what he likes at different price points and keep it on you. Then the next time he's on your mind, instead of sending flowers, send him a cigar.
Step2
If your man is a cigar enthusiast he has a favorite place to go smoke. More than likely, this place also sells his cigars. I have found that a good tobacconist knows their customers by name a taste. I was able to surprise my husband with his favorites by asking the shop owner.
Step3
If you have no clue what your man likes try this: Grab 4 that are about 4 inches long. 1 Ashton VSG, 1 Arturo Fuente Opus X, 1 Cohiba, and 1 Monte Cristo. Why do I say this? Well, they are fail safes for my husband.
Step4
Fire - Not only is the cigar important, but you must also present the proper lighting implements. While at the cigar shop ask for matches. Most fine tobacconists carry the "sulfur free" matches and give them to you for little or nothing. Small strips of cedar are a nice touch. You can also find those at a tobacconist. GENTLEMAN NEVER light a cigar with a butane lighter. This will affect the flavor of the cigar.
Step5
Environment - Where your guy smokes is just as ,if not more so, important than what he smokes. Lladnar likes his cigar in the cottage out in the backyard. It was our compromise as I don't let him smoke in the house and he doesn't always want to go to the Stag. In the summers, the deck is his place of choice. For him, it's not so much where as how. He likes it quiet, peaceful, and serene. When I'm giving him his cigar gift I make sure the kids are out of the house and I make myself available but scarce so he can climb into the cave.
Step6
When to buy - No matter what the occasion wait until the last available moment to buy the cigar. Cigars are best when kept properly humidified. Here in Colorado they can dry out very fast. Try to keep it fresh and if you must keep it overnight store it in a zip loc bag.
Step7
Off subject tip - Lladnar and I have a great time giving each other gifts. We switch off months. January is my month to get something for him, February is his month for me and so on and so forth. It may seem to lack spontaneity , but I find it blessfully romantic as you never know what the gift will be or when it will arrive. It could be something from a store or a FABULOUS melt in your mouth Lladner steak at home (he should do an ehow on that recipe). It also takes the pressure off of having to remember all those gift giving dates. (anniversaries, valentines days, birthdays ect.)
