Step 1
Location, location, location. A key component to creating any successful display is location. Consider the surroundings when selecting a location for a display. Know if the display is near a main entrance or hidden behind a service door. Wires and electrical cords should be minimized or hidden, if the display requires them. Selecting the site type is also a crucial decision, whether it is an island, peninsula, or aisle location at a trade show or a wall display at a shopping mall. The location of a display may also dictate how the design of the display is decided, for example if the display is inside or outside, in a hot or cold climate, or in high or low traffic area. The location of any display is a determining factor on the potential attendance.

Step 2
Style. Determine a central theme. The display should flow together well and convey a clear, strong image of the company and the presenters. The company’s logo should be a pivotal factor in deciding how the theme is chosen. Bright, attractive colors and images help to interest potential customers attention. The style of a display should express who the company is, what they are promoting and how the consumer can prosper from the company.

Step 3
Visually Pleasant. A nice looking display is a successful display. A symmetrical display, although looks balanced, doesn’t keep a viewers attention as well as an asymmetrical display. The scope holds a viewers interest, which increases the potential for a sale. The focal point of the display should be the featured products. Visually speaking less is more when it comes to a display. A cluttered display is not as effective as a tidy display.
