You'll have room for new shoes once you clear your closet of skeletons.
You'll have room for new shoes once you clear your closet of skeletons.

We’ve all had a few bones, if not entire skeletons, in our closet. The worst thing we can do is shove them further and further back. Unless dealt with, the skeletons will not disappear but continue to haunt us. It’s not easy to get skeletons out of the closet but it is well worth the effort. Besides, with all that extra room in your closet, you’ll have room to go buy new shoes.

Things You'll Need:

  • Pen and paper
  1. Step 1

Make a list of all your deep dark secrets, those that have haunted you for years and continue to plague you on a daily basis.

  2. Step 2

Elaborate on each secret, detailing the whole rotting thing. This could take a paragraph or several pages.

  3. Step 3

Find someone you wholly trust: a good friend, a spiritual advisor, a therapist, even a priest in a confession booth.

  4. Step 4

Spill out your secrets, reading directly from the list and elaborating when necessary.

  5. Step 5

Sigh with massive relief and joy. Go buy those new shoes.

Tips & Warnings
  • No matter how awful you think your secrets are, most likely they are not unique. People have probably done worse.
  • Try to do this as quickly as possible, for once you start delving into things you were avoiding for years, emotions are going to pop up.
  • Make sure the person to whom you disclose your secrets is someone who can handle them, can listen well and will not go posting them on some Web site.
