Select a Gaited Horse
Select a Gaited Horse

Selecting a Gaited Horse is actually quite easy. You just need to do a little research first.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Horses to look at
  • internet to do research
  1. Step 1

Search the internet and find what type of gaited horse you want. Remember, each type of gaited horse moves in a little different way.

  2. Step 2

Find a riding instructor and take lessons for about 3 to 6 months.

  3. Step 3

Look around at the local feed stores for flyers noting the sale of a horse.
Stay away from auctions. Look on the internet to find gaited horses for sale.

  4. Step 4

Upon finding a horse you like, make an appt. with the owner to see the horse. Later, show up two or three more times, UNANOUNCED. Look to see if the horse acts the same on each occasion. DID THE OWNER DRUG THE HORSE SO HE ACTED CALM WHEN YOU SHOWED UP?

  5. Step 5

When you find the right horse, take your riding instructor with you to look at it and negotiate a price. Listen the the instructor!!! Walk away from the horse if he or she tells you to.

  6. Step 6

Negotiate the price of the horse with the condition that the horse passes a pre-purchase exam by a vet. Your choice of vet. The vet has a very experience eye and can tell you things about the horse you didn't see.

  7. Step 7

Enjoy the ride of your life.
