Spooky Cake

Ever wanted to be the hit of the Halloween Party? Now you can by making this one of a kind, fabulous (not to mention spooky) graveyard cake!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • sheet cake pan
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • chocolate wafer cookies
  • pumpkin and candy corn candies
  • ghost peeps
  • sprinkles
  • Milano Cookies
  1. Step 1

Put first 3 ingredients in a pan, stir and heat until butter melts. Pour this mixture over 2 cups flour and 2 cups sugar.

  2. Step 2

Stir well and add 2 eggs + 1/2 cup buttermilk + 1 teaspoon baking soda + 2 teaspoons vanilla extract.

Mix well. Pour into a greased and floured sheet cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 27 minutes.

  3. Step 3

After the cake cools for about 10 minutes, frost with this frosting:

    1/2 cup butter + 1/4 cup cocoa + 1/3 cup milk

Mix and bring these ingredients to a simmer. Remove from heat and add powdered sugar (about 3/4 of a 1 pound box). Mix well and add 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. To change the flavor, add almond or orange extract.

  4. Step 4

To decorate a Graveyard Cake, use crumbled chocolate wafer cookies to resemble dirt, mini pumpkins and candy corns, ghost peeps (I use toothpicks to keep them upright), sprinkles and Milano cookies (gravestones) decorated with gel frosting RIP messages.
