Read on to learn how to sew a book of colors for babies.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Solid colored washable fleece in all of the basic primary colors--buy 1/4 yard of each color
  • Yard of coordinating solid or printed flannel
  • One roll of cellophane gift wrap
  • Sewing machine
  • Ribbon
  • Embroidery machine (optional)
  • Heavy duty hole punch
  1. Step 1

Cut a 9 X 8 inch rectangle out of each color of fleece. Cut a 9 X 8 inch piece of flannel and a 9 X 8 inch piece of cellophane for each piece of fleece you have.

  2. Step 2

If desired, use an embroidery machine to embroider each color name in the middle of each rectangle of fleece.

  3. Step 3

Pin all three layers of each page together. Put a piece of cellophane down first, then the fleece (right side up) and the flannel (right side down) and pin together.

  4. Step 4

Sew around all the edges of the rectangles, leaving a small opening on one side for turning. Turn the pages right side out. Fold the opening edges in and pin. Top stitch very close to the edge all the way around the page.

  5. Step 5

Use the hole punch to make three evenly spaced holes along one of the long sides of the pages. Line up the holes of each page and thread ribbon through. Tie the ribbon in double knots and dab a little clear nail polish on the ends of the ribbon to prevent fraying.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don't have an embroidery machine, but still want the color names to be on each page, try using a fabric-safe permanent paint pen to carefully write the names on the pages.
