Are you paranoid of attackers, constantly worried they are probing for information on your computer? I can show you how to make sure common access points to your computer are secured from attack!

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer
  • Windows XP or Vista

Step1
Direct to https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2. This is a program called Shield's Up! It will scan your computers ports, to determine if they are secure or not.
Step2
After visiting the site, click on the "Proceed" button in the middle of the window.
Step3
Under Shield's Up Serivces, click on "All Service Ports". This will scan the system's first 1056 ports, listing those that are unsecured. You can also click on any port to receive details on it.
Step4
If all of the ports come up clean, your computer is secure! If some ports are listed red, you may have to block that port in your firewall (so long as you don't use it). Refer to my other article regarding firewall setup.
