How to Use MetroAccess in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area
People who face disabilities can get around in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area thanks to MetroAccess. It provides door-to-door transportation service for people unable to use the bus or the city's rail system. All of the trips must be within 3/4 mile of the nearest bus stop or MetroRail station. MetroAccess representatives are available by phone weekdays at 301-562-5360.

Call MetroAccess seven days in advance of the trip date. The vehicle is supposed to arrive within a half-hour of the scheduled pick-up time. If your plans change, you have up to two hours before the pick-up time to cancel the trip with no penalty.

Register at the MetroAccess site to book rides online. You will need a MetroAccess Identification code and a password to use this service.

Board the vehicle in a timely way. The vehicle will only wait for you for a short time. Riders are responsible for their own personal assistance devices, service animals, and to keep the MetroAccess staff current on their home address, phone number and mobility equipment.

Riders must pay the fare upon boarding. The fares can change depending on the length of the trip and if the rider has a MetroAccess EZ-Pay card. The maximum fare as of 2011 was $7 for a one-way trip. Drivers do not carry change. The MetroAccess representative will explain the fare when the trip is booked.

Tips & Warnings
If your plans change, you have up to two hours before your pickup time to cancel your trip.
Seven no-shows or late cancellations in 30 days could result in a temporary suspension of your riding privileges.
