The state of Delaware's motto is "It's good to be first," reflecting the fact that they were the first official state of the union. Some ghost hunters think they may be first in paranormal activity as well. With its long history and connections to the revolution, Native American tribes and witches, this state is rife with spiritual activity.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Camera
  • Digital tape recorder for EVP work

Step1
Do a witch hunt. Start in Newark and Salem Church Road. The story goes that nighttime visitors can see the apparitions of a family of six townspeople who were all hung as witches. Legend has it that they are searching for the ancestors of the people who killed them. Bring your camera.
Step2
Head to Selbyville next and go to the Witches Tree. Take plenty of pictures and you may discover some of the common orbs reported from this location. Also, the spectral presence of a man in a truck are present here, And you might even hear the ghost truck starting its engine.
Step3
Drive out to Lewes and the Bay Oaks neighborhood. This newer development is said to have been built on a historic site. Apparently this was the location of an Indian attack on Dutch settlers. The entire community, especially those of Dutch decent, reported cold spots and ghostly encounters. Talk to the locals to get their personal stories.
Step4
Newark is an area with much historic and paranormal value. Don't miss going to the bridge where the first flag was flown over the battlefield. Legend has it that some Delaware militiamen fought off the British while George Washington made his getaway. During the skirmish, a British soldier got his head shot off, and his unfortunate silhouette can still be seen on moonless nights. Try some EVP work here as the whole area has an echo of history to share.
Step5
Final stop is the Dead Presidents Pub in Wilmington. This is a well-known haunted location. Although a historic area, the haunting is said to be of a more current variety. In the 1960s, a man named "Lemonade" died in a drunken spill in the men's room. Lemonade manifests himself in many ways including throwing dishes at employees, giggling near the stairs and even floating game pieces through the air. You'll find the Dead President's Pub at 618 North Union Street in Wilmington.
