I will admit...around formal time last year, I was broke. My mom was willing to buy me a dress for formal and then I got a speeding ticket. There went my $300 for a dress. So I was on my own. I came up with a few clever ideas to save money on a spring dress. It was beautiful, the hit of the party, and it only cost me $50 at the end of the day. Things You'll Need:

  • Yellow Pages
  • A good seamstress
  1. Step 1

    Check out local discount stores such as Ross or Marshall's that have dresses for a fraction of the price.

  2. Step 2

    Go in and try on many dresses. Some may work, others will not. Remember, with a little sewing, they may be good as new.

  3. Step 3

    Work with slightly damaged clothing. My dresses' straps were broken so I took it to a local seamstress. She even re-sewed beads for me. It cost $20.
