While the tutorial teaches you the basics of aggro, there are a few things you can do to take it a step further and really use aggro to your advantage. Learning how to fully utilize aggro can make a lot of the game considerably easier.

Instructions

    • 1

Designate one player as the aggro magnet. If you choose which one of you will take the fire, you can gear appropriately and save trouble figuring out your roles partway through.

    • 2

Equip the aggro magnet with a high-aggro primary weapon like the M249 or the PKM. Either one generates huge amounts of aggro and is effective at taking out bad guys to boot. As the aggro magnet, it is your job to stay behind cover and fire blindly at the enemy, thus drawing their fire and allowing your partner time to flank the enemy and take them unawares. Pimping your weapons also adds a slight aggro boost, but don't bother doing this unless you've got cash to burn.

    • 3

Equip the player who is not the aggro magnet with a low-aggro primary weapon like the HK36 or the S-System, and don't forget a suppressor. While high damage is always nice, low aggro generation comes first. Even though they may do a lot of damage, avoid machine guns and large sniper rifles.

Swap roles for your secondary weapons. In case one of you runs low on ammunition and you need to go to secondary weapons, make sure you gear your secondary weapons appropriately. It usually helps to switch roles for the secondary weapons (trade who is the aggro magnet), but if you prefer to keep the roles, this works too. High-aggro secondary weapons include the Desert Eagle, MP5 and P90.

Trading roles with secondary weapons allows both of you to get practice being the aggro magnet and spreads some of the "grunt work" load. But, if one of you definitely prefers being the aggro magnet (or not being the aggro magnet), there's no need to swap roles.

Choose appropriate upgrades. Certain weapon upgrades will be more helpful for the aggro magnet, while other upgrades are more useful for the partner. Suppressors, grips and longer barrels are good choices for non-aggro magnets while huge cartridges, shields, shotguns, grenade launchers and pimping are all excellent choices for aggro magnets.
