An article for the environmentally conscience on how to adopt a tree. Easy to do process that will leave you feeling good about yourself and the planet.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide whether you would like to plant a tree yourself or have a tree planted in your honor.

  2. Step 2

If you have decided to plant the tree yourself,go to your local nursery. They will be able to tell you what kind of tree will grow best in your area and how to care for the tree. If you decide to have a tree planted in your honor or have it dedicated to someone you care for, look for a non-profit organization that will do it for you or a registrar that will have the tree dedicated for you.

  3. Step 3

Either plant your tree and care for it or pay to have the tree planted and cared for my an experienced organization. A lot of times when you go through an organization, they will have the tree planted in a part of the world that most needs it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that you go through a reputable company when having the tree planted for you. I use a company that is supported by the United Nations Environment Programme.
  • Enter your trees and pledges in with UNEP to help further the cause.
  • Companies that charge you for a picture of the tree and such are usually not wholly environmentally conscience. A simple certificate or notice of adoption should be sufficient for gifts or memorabilia.

on 6/5/2008 Trees For The Future is another great non-profit. They give away tree seedlings in deforested third world countries. These rapidly growing fruit and shade trees help stabilize soil and promote the growth of crops and other plants.
