This article will provide information on how I was able to start a successful work from home business that doesn't involve any scams or other none sense. Call center experience is a plus and being a self starter also is a plus. This type of business is good for those from a call center, mortgage servicing, collections, and phone sales background. This is NOT a get rich quick business but one that will provide consistent income.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Up to Date Windows XP SP2 computer with printer
  • High Speed Internet connection
  • Plain Telephone Service line
  1. Step 1

Go to www.westathome.com then click on the link "Become An Agent". Follow the steps that follow. Be patient after you submit your information. This company can take some time to process your information.

  2. Step 2

The next step will involve West communicating with you to get necessary documentation to hire you. More info and details are available on their site. www.westathome.com

  3. Step 3

Next once everything from the previous step has been completed you will have the option to select your clients depending on the clients staffing needs. I have found in my personal experience the following clients to be profitable with West. Proflowers (although they are seasonal this client has great call volume with high utilization percentages.) Virgin Mobile : This client is the most lucrative by far from my experience in terms of call volume, availability of hours, support when needed, and year round consistency. Whenever Virgin Mobile comes available to you it would behoove you to select them as your client to service. These two clients can comfortably keep you working up to 40 hours a week and can make up to 12.00/hr. Not bad for working from home.

Tips & Warnings
  • This article describes my experiences and my best tip is to be patient. This is not a get rich quick thing. You can make a descent living however and live life on your terms. It will take some time to get started, learn your clients, and develop a routine but it is worth it.
  • It takes time to get your login ids. During this time you are not able to service clients. Therefore you won't be generating any funds during this time either. Adjust your finances accordingly. Plan on being able to support yourself for at least 3 to 4 months if you plan to go full time or start part time (highly recommended)
  • You must be able to work well alone and be able to stay focused without supervision. No one is there to tell you it's time to go to work....
  • You are at home but not alone. Your calls are monitored. You will receive Quality Assessments and the like the same as any other position. So don't think that you can do whatever you like. The clients IT department is able to see ALL that is done on your computer during your shift. So govern yourself accordingly and save your online shopping and bill paying for after your shift is over.
  • Your environment must be quiet!! No loud TVs, radios, or kids playing in the background. The client frown heavily on this and have little to zero tolerance in this area. I have found it best to close my office door while servicing clients and advise any relatives of my working schedule so they know not to call or pop up unexpectedly.
  • Have an additional PC or monies reserved for this. No matter how hard you try sooner or later something is going to happen to bring your PC to a halt. And no doubt right before a shift. Always have some funds set aside to either repair or replace your PC when these unfortunate times come. Personally, I keep my anti-virus software up to date, have a surge protector (not a power strip), and keep windows up to date. This has kept me up and running for the most part but acts of God and worn out parts can't be avoided.

on 11/25/2008 You're absolutely right about this company. They are legit and it is running a business/having a job from home. I only left them because I moved and you have to have your communications set up to their specifications. Another good resource is liveops.com. Thanks for a great, scam-free, article!
