How to Make Strawberry Dumplings

Finding a dessert that is yummy and out of the ordinary to fix either for dinner with the family or to take to a dinner party, can be a trying task these days. All of the recipes out there seem to come down to the same old thing or they prove to be too difficult to just “whip up.” Well, how about giving strawberry dumplings” a try? Yes, strawberry dumplings. Hopefully, the following tips will help you create a delicious dish that is just unusual enough to ensure that it will be a unique treat for any dessert occasion.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Stove
  • 1 ½ quart casserole dish
  • Medium sauce pan
  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Measuring cup
  • Measuring spoons
  • A fork or pastry blender
  • ½ tsp. vanilla
Step1
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. In the saucepan, over medium to high heat combine ½ cup of sugar and 2/3 cup of water and bring it to a boil.
Step2
Reduce the heat and allow the sauce mixture to simmer uncovered for five minutes.
Step3
Next, stir in ½ tsp. of vanilla.
Step4
In the medium mixing bowl, sift 1 cup of flour, 2 tbsps. of sugar, ½ tsp. of salt and 1 ½ tsp. of baking powder together.
Step5
Using a pastry blender (a fork will also work fine) cut in 4 tsbp. of butter until the mixture becomes flaky. Then, add ½ cup of milk and stir lightly until it becomes moist and is completely combined.
Step6
Put the strawberries into the casserole dish. Add the hot sugary mixture by pouring it over the strawberries.
Step7
Quickly add the dumpling dough by dropping it onto the strawberries in about eight to 10 heaping rounded spoonfuls.
Step8
Sprinkle the remaining sugar, which should be about 1 tbsp., over the strawberries and dumpling mixture and bake it in the oven for 25 to 30 minutes at 450 degrees. Carefully remove the strawberry dumplings from the oven and enjoy the yummy dessert dish while it’s still warm.

  • This dish is best if served slightly warm.
  • Always thoroughly rinse fruits before eating them or using them in a recipe to remove dirt and pesticides that may have been used to grow them.
