How to Clean a Toilet

Nothing says "I respect you" like presenting a guest with a clean, bleach scented toilet. Impress your friends. Woo your best gal. Be the talk of a town. All it takes is a toilet brush, a sponge, and some Comet scouring powder.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Rubber gloves
  • Toilet brush
  • Sponge
  • Comet, or off brand scouring powder
Step1
Put on the rubber gloves. If you're not terribly squeamish, you can leave the gloves out of it.
Step2
Open the toilet lid and seat and sprinkle about a half cup of scouring powder into the toilet.
Step3
Using the toilet brush, scrub the heck out of the inside of the toilet bowl. Get under the rim along the sides. Yeah...that looks good. Scrub all over.
Step4
Get the sponge wet and sprinkle a little scouring powder onto it.
Step5
Scrub the OUTSIDE of the toilet. Get down by the bolts and along the base. You'll want to rinse the sponge off when it gets dusty and dirty, and sprinkle some more powder onto it. Make sure to get behind the seat by the hinge. Wash the top AND bottom of the seat and lid.
Step6
Wash off the sponge (don't add the powder this time) and rinse off the outside of the toilet to get rid of any scouring powder left behind.

There. Doesn't that look beautiful?

Tips & Warnings

  • Sometimes well water that's high in iron can stain your toilet bowl a reddish brown color on the inside. If you're feeling ambitious you can scrub this off with a pumice stone.
