How to Print From a Linux Workstation to Linux Server

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Linux Server
  • Linux Workstation
  • Printer
  1. Step 1

    At the Server edit “/etc/hosts”

    Add all applicable clients in the following format: “IP address and host name” on separate lines.

  2. Step 2

    Save and exit the file.

    From the Linux client, edit the “/etc/printcap” file with the following:
    a. lp:rm=Linux2 (this is the server name)
    b. Save and exit

  3. Step 3

    At the command line type “lpd restart” to restart the daemon.

    Edit “/etc/hosts”

    Add all applicable servers in the following format: “IP address and host name” on separate lines.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure printer is on
  • Make sure computer is on
  • Make sure linux server and linux workstation are connected
  • Make sure the printer is connected
  • Make sure the pritner has paper in it.
