This is a recipe for a rich, fudgy chocolate sauce you can make with ingredients you probably already have on hand. It makes a large batch, and, although you can store the leftovers in the fridge, it requires substantial self-control. Better invite some friends over for a make-your-own-sundae party!

From Quick Guide: Sauces
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 12-ounce package semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 cans sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream or half-and-half
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • Pinch of salt
  1. Step 1

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt chocolate chips and butter, stirring frequently.

  2. Step 2

Add condensed milk, stirring to combine.

  3. Step 3

Add cream, vanilla, and salt and continue to cook for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent scorching.

  4. Step 4

Let cool slightly before serving over ice cream, cake, crepes, or fruit.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use different flavored extracts to change the taste of the chocolate sauce. Experiment with orange, mint, raspberry and other extracts.
  • Don't let the chocolate get too hot or it will burn. You can use a double-boiler to prepare this chocolate sauce.
