Things You'll Need:
- a ferret
- a heart
- assorted stuff around the house
-
Step 1
Give your fuzzy weasel a safe area to roam around the house. Look out for hazards like unsafe furniture and dangerous choking hazards.
-
Step 2
Make sure your friend gets out of his cage for playtime for several hours a day. Leave boxes and paper bags around for his or her entertainment.
-
Step 3
When your ferret is out of his cage give him some active play, but let him have some time to explore on his own.
-
Step 4
If he gets noodley after a hard days play, hold him and cuddle and spoil him.
-
Step 5
Don't dress him up like a retard.
-
Step 6
Give him the occasional raisin, let him eat it out of your hand. Just limit his raisin consumption to a very sparing level, because excessive sugar consumption can endanger his long term health.
-
Step 7
Keep his cage clean, and love him for the long term. A ferret when kept as a pet is a pet like a dog or a cat, just with its own set of peculiarities.

on 6/25/2008 Great article. Especially Step 5 - how could a hat and coat (or worse) improve the look of one of the cutest animals on our planet? It can't. I would like to add one thing: ferrets don't have a homing instinct, so don't let them on the loose outside. (Yes, I'm in CA, no, I don't have a ferret.)
