When working at home it is so easy to gain weight. I never realized how much activity it took me to go to work, until I saw my waist line expanding. Not only was I moving less but I was eating more because it was more convenient. Let me share with you how I took off and kept off the "work at home weight".

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • The desire to not gain weight when working from home.

Step1
Stick to a routine:
You may not have to work the regular 8 to 5 but you will need structure. This will help you expand your business not your waistline. Schedule snacking, so you wont over eat.
Step2
It all starts at the grocery store: Stop yourself from buying junk food to keep around your house. If you want a piece of chocolate, buy a single serving for you to have when you feel you must have it.
Step3
Break time does not mean snack time:
Taking a break is healthy but if you eat a whole pan of brownies it won't be. If you want a snack, grab a healthy snack and try to skip the junk food. While on break you can read a book, watch the news, listen to some music, play with the kids, or talk on the phone.
Step4
Get moving.
Get out from behind that desk, put some sneakers on and get moving. Go play with your kids out side, ride a bike, or go for a walk. No matter what you do just pick something you are not stationary and that you enjoy. If you find something you enjoy, you are more likely to stick to it.
Step5
Don't be harsh to your self:
So you ate the pan of brownies. Well that is the past, get your head back in the game. Do not wait till tomorrow, do it now.

on 3/17/2008 Step 4 works really well when you have a dog. I spent break times walking my dog. It "justified" leaving my desk! It also saved my life, according to the doctors, when I had a stroke five months ago. Great tips all around!

on 5/8/2008 More good tips, Amy! When at the computer, I have to keep reminding myself to get up and take a break and get moving. It's so easy to move into a sedentary mode.
