Pulled pork sandwiches are a staple of Southern cooking and involve slowly cooking the pork, shredding it and covering it with sauce, typically barbecue sauce. A pulled pork sandwich can be paired with cole slaw for a hot/cool meal. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 2 pounds pork shoulder roast
  • 14 ounces barbecue sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • Hamburger buns or kaiser rolls

Instructions

      Place the pork roast in the Crock-Pot and cook on low for 10 to 12 hours. You also can cook it on high for about five or six hours, though slow cooking is the method of choice.

      Remove the pork roast from the pot and discard the liquid in the pot.

      Shred the pork with two forks by sticking and pulling it apart. Return the pork to the pot and add the barbecue sauce, lemon juice, brown sugar and onion.

      Cover and cook on low for two hours, or on high for one hour.

      Serve on hamburger buns or kaiser rolls.

Tips & Warnings

  • For a 5-, 6- or 7-quart Crock-Pot, double all of ingredients except the barbecue sauce, which should be increased to 21 ounces.
