How to Embrace New Technology

Technology changes at the speed of light, or so it seems. It is near impossible to have the most up-to-date technology in your home or office, no matter how hard you try. On the other hand, it is not in your best interest to keep limping along with that old gadget. Don't be afraid to step up and learn to love the newest generation of technological wonders.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Learn about the new stuff. Read reviews on the web or in a trade magazine, listen to people who have upgraded already, ask questions. Visit a large book store on Saturday morning, and hang out in that section of the magazine racks that serve your niche. Within about half an hour, you'll encounter half a dozen people who will be delighted to share their opinions.
Step2
Visit a store and play with it. Don't grow frustrated if you can't use it like a pro; instead, approach it like a curious child. What does this do? What happens if I push this? What goes here? Oops!
Step3
Ask the tech staff questions: How many people are buying these? How many people are returning them? How often do people come in with crashes? What are consumers saying to you about this thing?
Step4
Go home (or back to the office) and mess with your old technology. Try to do a comparative analysis.
Step5
Return to the store and get into details with the tech staff. Sales people will be happy to help you buy, but they may not know the nuts-and-bolts of the machine. Ask them to take one out of the box and teach you to make it work. Have fun.

Tips & Warnings

  • Spend a lot of time playing with it in the store before you take it home.
