Never again find that you have no onions for that special recipe. Live in a cold climate, that's ok. Live in a small apartment, that's ok. Grow them on your kitchen table. Your potted onions will make a great center piece.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3 Green Onions
  • 3 Red Onions
  • 2 Planting Containers with reservoir tray
  • Soilless Planting Mixture
  • 1 Large Spoon
  • Water
  • Organic Fertilizer
  1. Step 1

Pick out your container. It can be anything from plant pot, washed and halved milk jug to a halved 1 liter plastic pop bottle. Be creative. Add color.

  2. Step 2
    Green Onions

Get your onions. You can get them cheaper from the supermarket. Cut the very bottoms off with roots attached. Use the top portion for cooking and plant the bottom part with roots. This works for both the green and red onions

  3. Step 3
    Potted Onion

Put dirt in container. Use your spoon and make 3 inch holes. Plant the 3 green onions together with a bit of space in between. Plant the larger red onions in the medium to large container. They will need more room for growth so they can bulb out.

  4. Step 4
    Organic Fertilizer

Fertilize according to directions. Onions sprout very easily. You will be seeing little sprouts in less a week or so, if that.

on 10/19/2009 Just plant the bottom of the bulb into the soil(will be white, red, yellow, or purple) The bulb doesn't have to be buried completely. I have quit burying bulbs because the disease risk is lower and bulbs get bigger.
