When editing in Adobe Premiere Pro, you can change a clip’s “In points” and “Out points” by dragging its edge within the timeline panel. As you drag the edge, the current "In" or "Out" point will appear in the Program Monitor. The display of the number of frames you are trimming will show a negative number if you are dragging the edge toward the beginning of the clip, and a positive number if you are dragging the edge toward the end.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

To trim the clip from within the timeline, first click the selection tool

  2. Step 2

Drag the left edge of the clip when the "Trim-in" icon appears to edit the "In" point.

  3. Step 3

Drag the right edge of the clip when the "Trim-in" icon appears to edit the "Out" point.

  4. Step 4

If you want to trim only one track on a clip that is linked to another, press the "Alt" key as you click with the "Trim" icon. You will not have to hold down the "Alt" key once you start.

  5. Step 5

Trimming clips in Timeline does affect adjacent clips, only the single clip edge.
