Interlace and non-interlaced clips are a more complex aspect of Adobe Premiere Pro. Each field of an interlaced clip captures slightly different moments in time. Improperly interlaced or non-interlaced clips can cause unwanted results, such as jerky motion or vibrating. You can process different fields for an interlaced clip so that the quality remain high when applying certain effects.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Select the clip in the "Timeline" panel, and go to "Clip," then "Video Options," then "Field Options."

  2. Step 2

To change the order in which the fields appear, select “Reverse Field Dominance.” This is useful for when you are playing a clip backward.

  3. Step 3

“None” will not process the clip’s fields.

  4. Step 4

“Interlace Consecutive Frames” will convert consecutive non-interlaced frames into interlaced fields. This option is good for converting 60-fps animations into 30-fps interlaced video.

  5. Step 5

“Always Deinterlace” will convert interlaced fields into whole progressive-scan frames. The program will deinterlace by getting rid of one field and creating a new field based on the lines of the remaining field.

  6. Step 6

If you specify “No Fields”, the upper field will be kept, unless you selected “Reverse Field Dominance,” and the lower field will be kept instead. This is a good option to use if you are freezing a frame in the clip and it is jumping.

  7. Step 7

“Flicker Removal” prevents the thin horizontal details in an image from flickering by slightly blurring the two fields together.
