The “duration” of a video clip is the length of time it plays from its first frame, the “In point” to its last frame, the “Out point.” By altering a clip’s In or Out points, you change its duration. When you are editing video in Adobe Premiere Pro, there are several ways to change a clip’s duration.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to your Timeline or Project panel, select a clip.

  2. Step 2

To change duration numerically, go to the top menu for “Clip”, and then select “Speed/Duration.” Click on the “link” button to unlink the clip’s speed and duration, and type in a new duration. Click "OK" when done.

  3. Step 3

To change a clip’s duration visually from within the Timeline panel, position the “Selection” tool over an edge of the clip. The icon will change to the “Trim Out” or “Trim In” tool.

  4. Step 4

Drag the edge of the clip using the Trim In or Out tool. To make the clip longer, the source of your clip must contain enough additional frames to accommodate the adjustment you are making.
