EXPERIENCE WANTED: Are you looking for a job and all the jobs you want, want only experienced candidates. Most will even threaten to black list your name from the company or toss out your resume if you apply for a job that you do not qualify for. The tough thing is you may have even gone to college, a extensive training program, or have years of experience in another field. I had that same problem, when I switched careers. When searching for a job I either had people hunting me down because they wanted to sell me their program or I was told I do not have the exact experience that they required. I thought I was highly qualified and was capable of doing the job, but if it was not proven on paper some company's just do not want to listen. So what do we do now that we no the problem.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Confidence.
  • Determination.
  • Will power.

Step1
Found out what experience you are lacking. Rather it be computer skills, communication skills, education, or years on the job. If you do not know do research on the particular job and next time you get turned down ask politely why. As long as you do this in a thoughtful manner, no one will thing anything less of you.
Step2
At this time would also be a good time to let bigger company's know if you are willing to start off lower on the company's bracket. For example, work as the assistant to the Manager. Many times in a company they will hire a Manager and then the Manager will help the Human Resource personnel hire their Assistant. If the HR manager thinks highly of you they may be willing to recommend you. This way if the new guy does not work out you would be more likely to get the job, even if you was not the second person on the list.
Step3
After you have determined what experience the employers think you are lacking find a way to get it. If it's education, enroll in a training or degree program. Many companies will overlook small things like not having exactly the right education if you are currently attending school and are other wised qualified. Same thing goes for small skills like working a Dictaphone or knowing a specific computer application. Just make sure to ad your expected graduation date to you resume or indicate how you are currently gaining the skills you are lacking. If you lack big skills like the ability to work a computer and your applying for a computer based job, you will need to be well in the classes before you have enough skills to apply the job.
Step4
Write a skill specific resume. For example, if you worked as a student Aid throughout your college years an now you want to become a job as a Sports Coach. You would describe your job tasks that you did as a Student aid that would help you as a Sports Coach.
Step5
Be truthful on your resume. Do not lie or stretch the truth on your resume. If you do they will find out, and you will find yourself unemployed again, And this time you will have a bad reference on your resume.
Step6
Know your skills and sell it. Tell your "future" employer why you are be a better fit for the job over someone else who has their listed requirements. Business' are usually in business for one of two reasons, to either make a difference in their pocket book or they are a non-profit looking to help others. They will do what is best for the business not what is best for you. Show them that you are passionate about the job, but do not get to personal. For example, do not think they will hire you because you need an income to support your family. Show them what they want, rather they know it yet or not.

Tips & Warnings

  • If all else fails, find a job in the next work bracket as similar as possible and then try to work your self up from their. While you are working it may be of benefit to do any type of volunteer work that may give you the experience in the skills you need.
  • Remember your basic interview skills. Always dress appropriately on a job interview, bring extra copy of resume to the interview, and as always be polite to every employee you meet. Even if they are not nice to you.
